The Montana Historical Society (MHS) exists for the use of learning, culture and enjoyment of the citizens of, and visitors to, the State of Montana by acquiring, preserving and protecting historical records, art, archives, museum objects, historical places, sites and monuments. The MHS Research collects, preserves, and provides access to a wide array of research collections, including manuscripts, government records, books, maps, and photographs about Montana and the West. These collections are open to the public for research or visiting. The Montana Historical Society is a joint partner with the Montana State Library in the administration of the Montana Memory Project.
